Summary of the Lesson

“The Bond of Love” is a heartwarming true story by Kenneth Anderson about a sloth bear named Bruno (later called Baba) and his deep affection for the author’s wife. The author accidentally brought the orphaned cub home, and his wife lovingly raised him. Bruno became a playful, mischievous pet, loved by everyone, including the dogs and the tenants’ children. Twice Bruno accidentally consumed poisonous substances – barium carbonate meant for rats and old engine oil – but survived with care. As Bruno grew too large to keep at home, he was sent to a zoo in Mysore. However, both the author’s wife and Bruno suffered greatly from the separation. The author’s wife visited Bruno at the zoo and found him weak and depressed. She pleaded to bring him back. With permission, they built a special enclosure in their courtyard – an island-like area – and brought Bruno home. The story beautifully illustrates the strong emotional bond between humans and animals.
