Ans: The Grandmother was a grey-haired old woman with a bent back and slow gait. Though she looked frail, her voice was strong and clear. She was almost ninety years old. She was born in a quiet age when there were no motor cars, aeroplanes or televisions. She was born, brought up, married and lived her whole life in the village on the slopes of Dharmagiri. She loved nature deeply and considered the river, trees, birds and animals as her friends. Her life was simple and full of hardships, yet peaceful and contented. Ans: Though the Grandmother was simple and village-bred, she had deep wisdom about nature. She believed that mountains, rivers, trees and animals have life and feelings. She was worried that the hotel would destroy forests, pollute the river and disturb wildlife. She also thought about the future generation who would suffer because of environmental damage. Her concern for nature proves that she was truly an environmentalist.
